Kaylee Hawkins
Alice
Kaylee is so excited for the opportunity to play Alice in this production. She was most recently in a production of How I Learned to Drive with Twilight Theatre Company, and Christmas at Pemberly at Firehouse Theatre Company. Kaylee graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with her BFA in Acting and Directing in 2019. Kaylee would like to thank the incredible cast, crew and director; as well as her loving parents, family, friends and coworkers who have always been incredibly supportive of her artistic pursuits. She would also like to give a special thanks to her husband Samuel and her beloved pup, Oatmeal Biscuit.
Tess James
White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, etc.
Tess is returning to Arts in the Open for the 5th time this summer, and is excited to be working with another fantastic group of people! Previous Arts in the Open credits include Hades/Hermes/Helios/etc. in Myth Adventures, the Stage Manager of A Superhero Tale, Father/Captain Walton/Professor in Frankenstein, and Dr. Seward in Dracula: The Death of Nosferatu.
Maji Shotts
Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter, etc.
Maji is 20 years old. She moved to Denver in 2018 and was totally engulfed into the arts. She’s done lots of improv and you may have seen her at the 13th floor once or twice!. She has a dog named Scooby and a lizard named Falcor, and she lives to entertain. Her goal everyday is to make at least one person's day better! Her dream is one day to be a part of a production of Hairspray! ( even though she can't sing).
Caleb Stuart
Caterpillar, Doormous, etc
Caleb is an actor, director, and writer based in Denver, Colorado. An avid lover of the outdoors, Caleb is thrilled to be a part of a production that combines his love of performance with his love of nature. When he is not performing, Caleb can be found hiking for the views Colorado has to offer or simply enjoying a good book on his porch. Caleb would like to thank his friends and family for their love and unwavering support.
Zach Tait
March Hare, Duchess, etc.
This is Zach's first production with Arts in the Open and would like to dedicate his performance to Ollia May "Gram" Snowden. A couple past credits include Bobby in Company and Pozzo in Waiting for Godot. Special thanks to his family & Lauren for their love & support. Thanks to you as well for helping keep performing arts alive & thriving. Enjoy the show!
Mary Schaugh
Director
Mary is honored to be returning to the trail with Arts in the Open for Alice in Wonderland. Previously, Mary directed The Three Little Pigs Vs. the Apocalypse and All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Being a Zombie.
For the last 15 years, Mary has directed productions throughout the U.S. spanning from opera to children’s theatre, and from Shakespeare to musical theatre. She is known for her collaborative and innovative directing style that focuses on engaging audiences in thought-provoking and immersive experiences. She enjoyed a tenure as the regional director for the national Murder Mystery Company, an interactive, live event with a rotating cast of actors, and gained the nation’s highest ratings. In addition to directing, Mary is an accomplished actor, opera singer, and improvisor with credits in New York, Los Angeles, Colorado, and Italy.
Mary wants to thank everyone at Arts in the Open, including our generous sponsors, and this fantastic cast! A very special thanks goes to Eli Schaugh for his fight choreography and support during this process.
Heather Abreu
Costume & Props Designer
Heather is delighted to be crafting and creating with Arts in the Open for the past 3 years! For this production she dusted off her sewing machine and fabric sheers as props and costume mistress! By day, Heather is a mom of two teens, elementary visual arts educator, dragon tamer, and teacher union advocate. By night, she is a creative, performer, and craftswoman extraordinaire. Heather is full of gratitude to the cast, her partner Paul, and especially Matt and Mary for putting up with her relentless desire for creative collaboration!
Eli Schaugh
Fight Choreographer
Eli has performed off-broadway and around the world as an actor and singer, and has studied and taught stage combat as an exciting component of his career. As a 3rd generation fencer and coach, sword fights are a passion of his, so choreographing a fencing scene for Alice in Wonderland with Arts in the Open was a special treat. Eli works now as a therapist and success coach, so getting out on the trail with this show has been a rejuvenating experience for him. He would like to thank his wife, Mary, for including him in this incredibly fun production!
